27th Infantry Division
PriorService is proud to offer a large selection of items for the 27th Infantry Division. The 27th Infantry Division was created in 1908 as the 6th Division but was changed to the 27th Infantry Division in 1917. The division served in World War I suffering over 8,000 casualties and was deactivated in 1919. The division was again reactivated in 1940 in preparation for World War II. The division was sent to the Pacific in 1942 and participated in several battles in the Pacific Theater. The first action the division saw was in the Gilbert Island when it captured Makin Atoll. The division next saw combat with the assault on the Marianas Island chain. The division was in combat on Saipan for several months before the island was secured. It next landed and saw months of savage combat in Okinawa. After the war the division served in the occupation force in Japan. The division was later formed into a National Guard unit. The 27th Brigade carries history of the division and has seen combat in Iraq. The 27th Infantry Brigade Combat Team has deployed to Iraq in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
