1st Army

PriorService is proud to offer a large selection of items for the First Army. The First Army was established in Europe in 1918. It was part of the American Expeditionary Force and was one of three field armies. The First Army was deactivated following World War I, but was again reactivated and had a crucial role during World War II. First Army was activated in 1944 in England and commanded all US ground forces participating in D-Day. This included 3 infantry division that made amphibious landings and 2 airborne divisions that made parachute assaults in Normandy. The First Army captured the vital port city of Cherbourg to the west of Normandy and then began the eastward attack on German forces. The First Army played an import part in the Allied assault and victory against German forces and stayed in action until the end of the war. The 1st Army returned to the United States in 1945 and has had several roles within the United States Army since.
